Bachelor of Laws (University of Papua New Guinea)
Admitted to practise as a lawyer in Papua New Guinea in 2023.
Professional Background
Loretta graduated from the University of Papua New Guinea in 2022 and completed her post-graduate legal training at the Legal Training Institute in early 2023 at which time she was admitted to practice at the National and Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea.
Loretta is in her second year of practice and has been working with Leahy Lewin Lowing Sullivan Lawyers since 24 April 2023.
Areas of Experience
Loretta practices primarily in the area of commercial litigation.
She has assisted the Partners and Associates with the following;
- General legal advice on basic court process/procedures under the National Court Rules, manufacturer’s liability, customary land disputes, registration of Incorporated Land Groups and customary land, insurance claims, registration of foreign judgements, dissolution of marriage, judicial review, property lien and the tax appeal process under the Income Tax Act.
- Representing clients with out of court settlements such as obtaining insurance claims and debt recovery and settlement.
- Drafting submissions for various National Court proceedings and a Supreme Court review application.
- Attending to the Supreme Court Registry for settling of Appeal Books.
Loretta regularly appears at the National Court for disputes in the following areas of law:
- Construction contracts – breach of contract
- Liquidation proceedings against companies
- Debt recovery claims
- Taxation of legal costs at the National Court Registry.
